Gates of Hades is a Pragmatic Play slot inspired by the company’s highly successful Gates of Olympus. It launched on May 22, 2025.
Naturally, it carries over the same Greek mythology theme and features iconic Ancient Greek gods. Gameplay revolves around the Cluster Pays mechanic, where you win by landing at least 5 identical symbols in a cluster, either horizontally or vertically.
Like many Cluster Pays slots, Gates of Hades also uses the Tumble mechanic, but it also includes several other special features like bonus buy, free spins, multipliers, and wilds.
The game is played on a uniform 6×6 grid and offers an above-average RTP of 96.52%, although this drops slightly when using either of the two bonus buy free spin options.

About Gates of Hades: Game Overview
If you’ve ever played Gates of Olympus, you’ll notice the many similarities quickly, though the darker, hellish visuals of Gates of Hades bring a fresh twist. You’ll encounter Hades himself, Cerberus the three-headed dog, and other fiery elements drawn from Greek mythology.
Mechanically, however, it borrows heavily from Gates of Olympus and its sequels like the Super Scatter variant. The Cluster Pays and Tumble mechanics are there, but Gates of Hades includes a dedicated row at the top where the multipliers pool together for the duration of a Tumble sequence.
In this version, Wilds, rather than standalone multiplier symbols, carry multipliers. Hades activates them when they land, just as Zeus does in Gates of Olympus. The Wilds not only substitute for other symbols but also remain on the board during Tumbles, building their multipliers as long as the sequence continues.
With multipliers reaching as high as 100x, a single spin has the potential to yield massive prizes. That’s precisely where Gates of Hades differs from Gates of Olympus, which has separate multiplier symbols instead of wilds that come with multipliers attached and substitute for other symbols.
Gates of Hades Slot Information
Gates of Hades features a 6-row, 6-reel square grid layout. There are no traditional paylines, as the slot game utilizes the Cluster Pays system, where at least 5 matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically result in a win. The more you connect, the higher the payout.
The betting range goes from 0.20 to 240 credits. You have a lot of leeway in choosing your amount, as you can select the bet level and the coin value.
The game features eight regular symbols, each offering different payouts. The example paytable shown corresponds to a single stake, but like many Pragmatic Play games, the exact winnings in the paytable change depending on the stake you set, so you can easily see what’s possible for the amount you’ve chosen.
Gates of Hades Slot Features
Scatters and Free Spins
Scatter symbols can land on all reels. If you land at least 3 of them, you’ll activate a free spins round with 10 spins. If you land 4, 5, or 6+ scatters, you’ll get 12, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively.
In the free spins round, wilds can come with multipliers ranging from 1x to 500x, which is five times higher than the 100x cap in the base game. If you trigger the 20 free-spin round with 6 scatters, the minimum multiplier increases to 10x.
Additionally, all multipliers collected move to the top row until the end of the round, so the rewards can progressively increase.
Tumble Feature
The Tumble feature operates similarly to most other slots, activating every time you make a winning combination. The winning symbols disappear as they fall to the bottom, and new symbols appear from above, keeping the grid full throughout.
If the new symbols form another winning cluster, the Tumble continues, so there’s no saying how long a single spin can last. More importantly, there’s no telling how much you can win from a single spin.
Wilds and Multipliers
The wilds in Gates of Hades substitute other symbols and can come with multipliers of up to 100x in the base game and 500x in the free spins round.
The multipliers that land with the wild move to a separate row at the top and stay in place for as long as the spin is active. During this time, any winning combination in that reel will have its payout multiplied accordingly. This synergy between wilds, multipliers, and Tumbles can snowball into big rewards, especially in the bonus round.
Buy Bonus
Gates of Hades includes two bonus buy options:
- Buy Free Spins: Costs 100x your stake and triggers at least 3 scatters, so you’re guaranteed to get at least 10 free spins.
- Buy Super Free Spins: Costs 500x your stake and also triggers at least 3 scatters and at least 10 spins, but ensures a minimum multiplier value of 10x.

Game Specs: RTP & Volatility
The return to player (RTP) in Gates of Hades is 96.52%, which is above the industry average of 96%.
A 96.52% RTP means that for every 100 played, the game is expected to return 96.52 on average over the long run. Of course, outcomes vary significantly in the short term. Slots are randomized, so actual results may differ wildly from spin to spin.
The volatility is high, meaning that wins are rare, but once they occur, they are usually substantial.
200 Spins Test of Gates of Hades
To gain a better understanding of how the game works and whether it’s worth recommending, I played 200 spins on the minimum bet level of 0.20, as I had about 150 credits in my account.
On the very first spin, I had the opportunity to see how multipliers and wilds interact with the Tumble feature. I made three winning combos with a 3x multiplier. However, the combos didn’t connect on the multiplied reel, so I ended up winning less than the cost of the spin.
This scenario repeated multiple times, but I also landed several decent spins throughout the test. Within the first 30 spins, I even landed a 1.08 win as a result of the Tumble feature continuing to make connections as new symbols were introduced from above.
A few spins later, I scored 1.35, this time boosted by a 5x multiplier on one of the winning reels. This illustrates the importance of reel placement and multipliers in maximizing your payouts.
By the halfway mark, I had triggered at least five wins over 1 credit, plus several smaller but solid hits in the 0.50-0.70 range. That said, my balance was still down about 8 credits at that point.
One standout moment came when I landed two multipliers, 3x and 9x, in the same spin. One winning cluster connected with both, and by the end of the Tumble, I won 2.31 from a single 0.20 spin.
When I was close to my 200th spin, I decided to try the bonus buy option. On the lowest bet setting, the standard bonus buy was only 20 credits, while the Super Free Spins were 100. Since I was down about 15 credits, I opted for the cheaper option. It resulted in a 12.69 payout, so not quite breaking even, but not terrible either.
However, the game really surprised me just a few spins later when I was about to end my test. I landed 3 scatters, activated 10 free spins, and won 6.07 from that. At the end of my test, I was down by about 18 coins, but I can’t say that this was all bad, as it was clear that winning in this game depended heavily on landing enough big payouts.
Our Experts Verdict and Ratings
Gates of Hades is in many ways a copy of the very successful Gates of Olympus, but it adds a few twists to make it a more than decent standalone title. The gist lies in how the wilds and multipliers work, as well as how rewarding they can be in combination with the Tumble feature.
The theme is not overly original, but the graphics, animations, and sound design are excellent, in line with what Pragmatic Play’s been delivering lately. Plus, the mobile version is genuinely great, so it’s a joy to play on the phone.
The high volatility might not suit everyone, but the above-average RTP and 10,000x max win give this game real potential. If you’re looking for something explosive and engaging, Gates of Hades delivers.
