All of this led to the introduction of House Bill 1052 in early December, 2025. The bill aimed to explicitly ban the dual-currency model in online games of chance. Specifically, the bill bans all internet-based sweepstakes games that simulate casinos, lottery, or sports wagering using a dual or multi-currency setup.

The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA), representing many major sweepstakes casino operators, fought against the bill. Some lawmakers even tried to amend the legislation to regulate and tax the industry rather than ban it.

However, the bill passed the House in early February 2026 with 86 yes votes and the Senate only two weeks later with 37 yes votes. Governor Mike Braun then signed it into law on March 12, allowing operators until July 1 to leave the state or face fines up to $100,000 per violation. With that, Indiana joined a growing number of states that either heavily restrict or outright ban sweepstakes casinos.

What Legal Online Gaming Options Are There for Hoosiers Currently?

With the new ban, Hoosiers have lost access to the most popular online casino-style experience in their state. The closest thing that’s left is social casinos like BetRivers.net and Hard Rock Jackpot Casino. These sites operate almost identically to sweepstakes casinos, minus the sweepstakes part.
