Dorados is a new sweepstakes casino from operator Rafflefy Limited. In fact, you may have heard of BigPirate, another platform from the same company.
Dorados works in a very similar way – it’s clearly built on the same software, just with a different aesthetic: BigPirate has a pirate theme, while Dorados has more of a conquistador/ancient world-type feel.
The two sites are similar, but the terminology they use is different. For example, BigPirate uses Rum as its third currency, but Dorados has Elixir, so in this guide I’m going to explain exactly what Elixir is and how it can be used in the island-building game and associated slot.
Just keep in mind that Dorados is a sweepstakes casino with slots, table games, and more. The island-building game is certainly substantial, but it is a sidequest compared to the main sweeps casino experience.
Understanding Dorados’ Currency System
Let’s look at the five main currencies used at Dorados:
- Gold Coins
- Gems
- Elixir
- Coins (separate from Gold Coins)
- Claw Credits
Gold Coins (GC) are for free play on the casino games, while Gems are the equivalent of Sweepstakes Coins (SC) and can be won through playing casino-style games and, later on, redeemed for real cash prizes. So far, so normal.
Dorados then goes beyond the standard sweeps casino setup by using Elixir within its original slot game. Playing the slot can award Coins and other resources, which players use to build islands and explore the map. As they progress through these activities, they can eventually unlock additional rewards, including Gems.
To sum up: Elixir → Slot spins → Coins → Island upgrades → Gems and other rewards
And the main ways to get your hands on Elixir in the first place are:
- Playing with Gems/SC: Earn 1 Elixir for every 10 Gems spent.
- Buying Bundles: Through packages from the coin store.
- Through Bonuses: As in the free signup bonus or the Daily Calendar.
It’s actually quite an interesting and circular system because playing with Gems generates Elixir while playing with Elixir generates Gems!
The fifth currency of Claw Credits can be used on the Claw Machine, an exciting and separate feature. We’ll cover that later.
How Dorados’ Island-Building Game Works
The tagline at Dorados is ‘Restore ancient lands and uncover sacred Elixir’, which starts to hint at the fact that this currency is central to the Dorados slot and island-building game.
Yes, players spend Elixir to get Coins to upgrade their islands, and each location has 4 objects with 4 upgrades each, so 16 steps in total. The more upgrades you complete, the more rewards you’ll earn, and there are more than 100 unique islands – plenty to keep you busy.
When you finish one island, you’ll be able to move on to the next, and you earn 1 SC for each completed island. All players start off in Dorados, then you can advance to other destinations including Australia, England, and Hollywood! It’s truly a global game.
Spin the Slot
Now onto the unique slot game. In order to get the silver Coins required to build up your islands, you’ll want to load up this proprietary slot machine. You just need to click ‘Play Now’ from the left-hand nav.
Here, Elixir is the currency used to spin, and this is how you uncover the following symbols/rewards:
- Coins: Collect the currency you need to build your land.
- Raid: Stealthily snatch Coins from other players’ storages.
- Attack: Conquer and demolish your rivals’ islands.
- Milestone: Fill the bar to unlock special rewards.
- Shield: Summon protection to guard your land from others.
The lowest possible spin amount on the slot is 1 Elixir, so you do end up burning through it fast, but you will be getting useful rewards in return.
By the way, this isn’t immediately obvious, but to access your islands, just hit the hammer icon in the bottom left under the slot machine.
Raids, Attacks, and Shields
If silver Coins help you build up your islands, other symbols can help you go on the offensive or defend yourself from other attacking players – this is where the Dorados game becomes social and rather competitive.
But you can’t just do this at will. No, you must land the necessary symbols on the slot game.
Go on Raids
Land 3 Raid symbols on the slot to steal from another player:
- Choose 1 of 4 treasure chests and your prize depends on their balance and your spin.
Launch Attacks
Land 3 Attack symbols on the slot to plunder another island:
- If the other player is unshielded, you break an object and seize their Coins.
- If the other player is shielded, their object stays safe, but they lose a Shield.
As you can see, going on Raids and Attacks is one way to build up your treasure while reducing that of competitors, and having Shields will help keep you safe from attacks on your own islands.
Tournaments and Leaderboards
Many other sweepstakes casinos have tournaments and leaderboard challenges related to spending and wins on slots, but Dorados adds these elements to its island-building game.
The tournaments are 48-hour competitions where you can compete against 100 other seekers. Players earn points through spins, raids, and attacks to climb the ranks for elite rewards.
You’ll also find a handy Leaderboard screen so you can see where you rank compared to other players. Of course, when you start, you’ll be near the bottom compared to the thousands of other players, but don’t get disheartened. With persistent play you’ll soon start climbing the ranks.
Card Fragments
One more way to unlock rewards is through Card Fragments.
As you upgrade your islands, you’ll find 7 fragments of a hidden picture. Acquire the 2 missing pieces using Coins to complete the set, and complete the full collection of 9 to claim your rewards.
Claw Machine
Finally, let’s circle back and look at the Claw Machine which is not part of the Dorados slot game/island-building system.
As we mentioned up top, this is powered by Claw Credits, and these are available in the Reward Market (separate from the coin store). Basically, the Reward Market is another place you can spend Elixir, and one item for sale there is Claw Credits.
The Claw Credits cost quite a lot. For example, 1 requires 30 Elixir, so you will have to save up and avoid spending Elixir on the slot game.
However, there are multipacks, so let’s say you buy 5 Claw Credits at 120 Elixir, you’ll be getting a better deal (1 Claw Credit for 24 Elixir). Essentially, it pays to buy in bulk.
Once you have your Claw Credits, you can use them on the Claw Machine. This is a real life game shown to you via live video feed, and you control the claw remotely to try and grab a prize – it’s quite something!
The different prizes you can grab come with different rewards:
- Diamond rewards 2 Gems
- Four-Leaf Clover rewards 1 Gem
- Banana rewards 20 free spins on slots
- Strawberry rewards 10 free spins on slots
- Plum rewards 30 free spins on slots
I personally prefer to get Gems via the island-building game as it feels like a better use of my Elixir.
In Summary
As you start to play the various games at Dorados, you’ll soon get a sense of where you want to spend your Elixir:
- On the slot to power your island-building
- On the Claw Machine to directly land tokens and free spins
The end goal is to score Gems which you can redeem for real cash prizes. It just depends which way you prefer to go about this.
The whole ecosystem at Dorados is about as complex as it gets, and some players might find the whole concept hard to grasp. However, others will enjoy this fresh spin on sweepstakes casinos, adding new layers of fun and social play.
I’d encourage you to give it a go, even if you don’t understand everything at first – the more you play, the more you’ll get into the groove and start to understand how it all fits together. Plus, once you master the system at Dorados, you’ll find the Big Pirate game super easy to play because it’s essentially the same thing with a different skin!
By the way, the no-deposit bonus for all new players at Dorados is 20,000 GC + 2 Gems + 2 Elixir, meaning everyone gets some currency just for signing up.
There’s also a first purchase bonus, offering excellent value to get you started on your journey: 250,000 GC + 25 Gems + 1 Elixir + 1 Claw Machine token for $9.99.
