Onyx Odds Sweepstakes Sportsbook Review

Onyx Odds Homepage

Onyx Odds is a mobile sweepstakes sportsbook launched in October 2024 by Onyx Games LLC – a company registered in New York. It’s one of the several social sportsbooks to launch in 2024, but this one claims to be ‘America’s Premium Sportsbook’. We’ll let the SweepsKings be the judge of that.

It’s a mobile-only social sportsbook – which might surprise you at first – but this decision is in line with competitors like Novig and Rebet. Onyx Odds is available in 41 states and incorporates the sweepstakes model, which means that you can place bets on NFL, NBA, and even college sports without spending any real money. The app has two virtual currencies – Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash – and the latter can be redeemed for cash prizes.

The newcomer bonus is 1,000 Onyx Coins after registration, so let’s see what else Onyx Odds has to offer and whether you should engage with its services.

Pros

  • Collegiate sports (NCAAB and NCAAF) in selected states
  • Competitive odds
  • The welcome no deposit bonus is extremely easy to claim
  • Easy to navigate website
  • Spend $10 Get 25 Onyx Cash with our code

Cons

  • No SC in the sign up bonus
  • No other promotions for registered users
  • Pending iOS and Android apps
Editor’s Note

Onyx Odds is a new sweepstakes sportsbook that only operates on mobile. It doesn’t have a mobile app, yet it’s only accessible through a mobile website. You can bet on all the major US leagues, and even college sports, but international markets are lacking. I’m really not a fan of the no deposit bonus, which offers just 1,000 Onyx Coins and doesn’t offer any Onyx Cash (SC) – which is a real shame.

How Onyx Odds Works

Onyx Odds is a social sportsbook. It incorporates the sweepstake model, which means that it’s mostly for entertainment.

There are two virtual currencies you can use on the platform, Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash, which resemble Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins in other casinos. The idea is to offer sports betting to Americans from as many states – including ones where real money sports betting isn’t legalized yet. Also, it’s a fun way to spend time if you’re a sports fan, and there are even real money prizes as well.

The Onyx Coins currency has no monetary value and can only be used to bet for fun, while the Onyx Cash currency can be redeemed as a cash prize, with the minimum redeemable amount being $20. However, regardless of how the Onyx Cash has been obtained, it must be used at least once (1x rollover) before it can be cashed out.

Onyx Odds Bonuses

Onyx Odds Bonus

The registration no deposit bonus at Onyx Odds will net you 1,000 Onyx Coins. Since this is not a social casino but a social sportsbook, I wasn’t surprised by the relatively low amount of free currency, but I expected to receive at least some Onyx Cash. Sadly, the no deposit bonus doesn’t offer any free Onyx Cash even after verification.

Thankfully, there is first purchase bonus if you use our promo code to register – Spend $10 Get 25 Onyx Cash.

Other ways to earn Onyx Cash include the mail-in bonus, which will net you 5 Onyx Cash.

SweepsKings has reviewed dozens of sweeps casinos and sportsbooks, so we expected to see at least one way to top up our Onyx Odds account for free on a regular basis – be it through a daily login bonus, a VIP program, or any other way. But, much to our astonishment – Onyx Odds doesn’t offer any type of daily bonus.

The main page mentions a VIP program, claiming that you can claim Onyx Coins and earn loyalty points, and when you gather enough Coins, you’ll become an Onyx VIP. However, there isn’t a single piece of information about how it works, how to earn points, and what the VIP perks are. So, I’ll put the VIP program in the ‘Work in progress’ category.

A refer-a-friend bonus is also lacking, which is a real shame. But, the positive is the mail in bonus, which will net you 5 Onyx Cash. For the time being, this is the only way to get free SC here.

Onyx Odds Betting Options & Markets

Onyx Odds covers odds for 8 sports leagues: the NFL, NBA, NCAAF, NCAAB, NHL, Boxing, UFC, and female tennis. The coverage is not impressive by any means, but it does include the most popular sports leagues in the US. Of course, some competitors feature 40+ sports to bet on, and I would love to see more leagues and sports at Onyx Odds too. But, since this is a new social sportsbook, the coverage is satisfactory, and I expect it to grow soon.

The bet type selection is also not the widest, with barely a handful of options on offer: moneylines, point spreads, totals, and parlays. There are no prop bets or any advanced betting categories. But, on a more positive note, this makes Onyx Odds very suitable for beginners.

You can navigate through the different leagues and betting markets, and the point spread selection is good. There’s also a Live Betting section, where you can place bets after the event has started. The odds are updated in real time and are rather competitive. I would go as far as to say that Onyx Odds offers the best odds of any social sportsbook in the US.

Onyx Odds Markets

The sports covered at Onyx Odds include all the NFL, NHL, and NBA matches, as well as Men’s College Basketball and Men’s College Football leagues. Note that betting on MLB is not available yet. On the plus side, live betting is for all sports.

The majority of users will bet on some of these sports, and the bet types include moneylines, point spreads, and totals. This clearly shows Onyx Odds’ target audience: casual and novice bettors who are placing their first bets. And that’s exactly what social gaming is – playing for fun.

So, I can confidently say that Onyx Odds achieves this goal and delivers a fun betting experience despite the relatively short list of betting markets.

Social Sportsbook Features

Onyx Odds Betting

The two highlight features of Onyx Odds are the fact that it offers odds for college football and basketball, and the live betting segment. There aren’t many flashy quirks like a Leaderboard or even a community where bettors could compare their bets and talk about the platform, but if the player base continues to grow, I expect both to be added soon.

  • Only includes the most basic bet types

Onyx Odds Banking

Onyx Odds Redeem

The only ways to top up your account with Onyx Cash, which is the redeemable currency at Onyx Odds, are through the mail-in bonus and Onyx Coin bundle purchases. There are several bundles users can purchase, and they all include a combination of both virtual currencies.

The banking methods you can use, though, are limited at the moment. As for prize redemptions, you can redeem won bets in cash via ACH Banking once you have at least 20 Onyx Cash.

The green Redeem button takes you to the redemptions page, and as I mentioned, you need to have at least 20 Onyx Cash in your account to be able to request a cash prize. You can only use ACH Banking for redemptions since Onyx Odds doesn’t provide gift card options.

Surprisingly, the Terms and Conditions state that redemptions can take up to 30 days. In reality, it won’t take that long but don’t be surprised if you have to wait for your cash prize for around 5 business days. Also, you have to playthrough any Onyx Cash at least once – regardless if you got it from a promotion or a bundle you have purchased.

Is Onyx Odds Social Sportsbook Legit?

Onyx Odds is a fresh sweepstakes sportsbook, having launched in October 2024. It’s operated by a company named Onyx Games LLC with an address of 169 Madison Ave STE 11498 New York, NY 10016. According to the NY company register, Onyx Games LLC was established on August 2, 2024, and is governed by the New York Department of State. Being a sweepstakes sportsbook, it doesn’t require a standard betting license, but judging by the information on the website, Onyx Odds adheres to the US sweepstake laws.

No further info about the company has been disclosed, like who the owners are and their vision, nor have they had a flashy launch. I looked into their social media channels and there’s some activity here and there, but it looks like their marketing efforts haven’t kicked off yet. I checked several Onyx Odds reviews by users on Reddit, and most of the feedback has been positive so far.

Onyx Odds has a lengthy Responsible Gaming page, where they offer a set of tools that are available to all users. They include purchase limits, wager limits, and loss limits, which roll for a 24-hour period, but there are also more drastic options like Self Exclusion and Account Closure. To activate any of these RSG tools, users need to send a request via email at contact@onyxodds.com. The RSG page also shares some tips on self-assessment and offers links to support organizations.

Onyx Odds Customer Support

Onyx Odds Support

Onyx Odds should start working on the customer support section pronto. Considering how new the platform is, and the fact that many of the features still feel like they’re in beta mode, a reliable CS is needed now more than ever. Yet, the only option is email support.

For example, I struggled with my account registration process and I kept receiving the same message that my account cannot be created. I used the only available customer support channel – the email at contact@onyxodds.com – but it took the team over 3 days to respond to my question. Luckily, the bug was fixed just a few minutes after I sent out the email, so my issue was resolved way before I got help from the CS team. But, I would totally understand if a user tries to register, encounters a problem, tries to reach customer support, and eventually gives up.

There is no live chat or phone support, and even though you can find a telephone number on the Onyx Odds website, you can’t reach the CS team via phone. The FAQ section on the main page, if we can call it that way, is very basic and doesn’t provide enough information.

Onyx Odds UX

Onyx Odds UX

For a platform that claims to be ‘America’s premium social sportsbook’, I find it lazy to offer mobile-only social sports betting without offering dedicated apps for Android and iOS. The only option you have is the mobile-optimized website. Admittedly, the website works flawlessly, and I really like the muted colors that dominate the website. Everything is within 1-click reach, and once you log in, there are only three menus at the bottom: Home, My Bets, and Account.

The betting markets are in the home section, and you can find your bet history in the My Bets section. The Account section shows your Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash balances, transaction history, and it’s also the place where you can purchase coins.

Android users can technically use it as an app if they click ‘Share’ in their mobile browser and then ‘Add to Home Screen’. Then, the Onyx Odds will launch from the home screen icon as an app.

Onyx Odds Sister Sites

Onyx Games LLC entered the US social gaming market with Onyx Odds – making it one of the few exclusively social sportsbooks in the country. As such, it doesn’t have any sister sites yet, and even Onyx Odds is still in its infancy.

SweepsKings has reviewed a few more established social sportsbooks that popped up recently, and you can compare their features with Onyx Odds below.

How It Stacks Up

Onyx Odds has lower sports coverage than competitors like Rebet and Sportzino and a worse welcome bonus than Thrillz and Novig. It doesn’t offer a free daily bonus like the majority of US sweepstakes sportsbooks, and it doesn’t even offer free SC (Onyx Cash) in the welcome deal. So, on paper, it seems like a really poor option.

But there are some positives here. If you’re a beginner, you’ll find the website extremely easy to navigate through (this is largely because there aren’t many sports and betting types, though), and the odds are really competitive. That’s Onyx Odds’ biggest selling point at the moment and a good enough reason to check out this platform.

Our Experts Verdict

SweepsKings Casino Approved

The first social sportsbooks started popping out in 2024, and here we are with an entire market of sweepstakes betting sites. So, does Onyx Odds stand a chance in a market where operators like SportsMillions, Sportzino, and even Novig and Fliff all offer truly unique features? It’s hard to tell.

Onyx Odds’ biggest downside is that it doesn’t shine in any area. The welcome bonus is subpar, the betting market variety can be better, the redemptions are only possible through ACH, and the customer support service is ridiculously slow.

The few positives are the competitive odds, which are better than any other social sportsbook, and the simplicity it offers. The 5 Onyx Cash mail-in bonus is also good when compared to other social books.

I believe that with a solid marketing push and a proper promotional campaign, Onyx Odds can catch up with the competitors and become another attractive alternative. We’ll keep checking back and update this review with the latest Onyx Odds features.
