Punt 6,500 SC Error Sparks Questions Over Repayment

It’s come to light that multiple players at the Punt sweepstakes casino were credited with 6,500 free and redeemable SC in error at the weekend. It appears that most players saw the funds taken back, while some players spent the SC on games, and others successfully redeemed the SC into their bank accounts.

Punt is a sweepstakes casino operated by the Gold Coin Group LLC. Launched in 2024, it has a sister site in the form of Chanced, with both platforms collaborating with gambler and internet personality Vegas Matt.

Punt uses two virtual tokens for casino gameplay rather than real money. These tokens are called Gold Coins (GC) and Sweeps Coins (SC), with the latter redeemable into real cash prizes.

Since the incident at the weekend, SweepsKings has seen a post written by a moderator in the SweepsFlow.com Facebook group requesting that any Punt players who did cash out the erroneous 6,500 SC organize repayment with a Punt representative.

The post reads:

“Over the weekend a small number of users received 6,500 SC in error on PUNT, I have been contacted by SJ Lee who works with punt.com and they are trying to get in contact with you to set up repayment. Failure or ignoring to do so will result in legal action taken as this is a civil matter. SJ is willing to work with you and provide a solution that is a win win before it can get to this matter.”

Debate soon turned to whether players should be expected to return funds that were credited and processed in error, especially in a space where bonuses and random credits are the norm.

Mixed Punt Player Experiences

Different users in the same Facebook group reported different stories upon receiving the 6,500 SC.

Some said the coins were taken back after the site had been put into maintenance mode, and others said they simply spent the funds on gameplay.

Candice Maurine Wetjen:

“they took it away the next day on me”

Robert Ty:

“I bought bonuses on games and closed them out knowing they were gonna wipe balances. After the site came back up all my bonuses were still there, lol 6 $1k bonuses on diff games and 1 $500 bonus”

Annie Keosaksith:

“I did but 10 mins after I saw the balance the site went u see construction and the bal was gone when I was finally able to get back in..”

For obvious reasons, there were no comments from players that redeemed the free SC.

The Punt representative did make comments, urging players to cooperate. Combined with the post we quoted at the top of this article, some of the wording seemed to imply a legal threat. For example:

“It’s in your best interest to contact me here or at my email.”

Can Punt Legally Request Repayment?

A reading of Punt’s current terms and conditions reveals clauses that may be relevant in this situation.

‘Mistaken Additions 7.27’ reads:

“If at any time we mistakenly add Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins to your Customer Account that do not belong to you, whether due to a technical error, human error or otherwise, the Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins added by mistake will remain Gold Coin Group LLC property and will be deducted from your Customer Account. If you become aware that you have mistakenly received a prize redemption that does not belong to you prior to us becoming aware of the error, the mistakenly paid amount will (without prejudice to other remedies and actions that may be available at law) constitute a debt owed by you to us. In the event you discover an incorrect addition of Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins, you are obliged to notify Customer Support by using the “Contact” link on the Platform without delay.”

This is likely the most relevant clause for this situation. It gives Punt permission to correct balance mistakes and turns an incorrect payout into a “debt owed” by the player.

So it seems Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins “added by mistake” can be taken back within the Punt platform, but it’s less clear how that works once funds have been redeemed into real money – this is where the uncertainty lies.

Whether a redeemed payout falls under “a prize redemption that does not belong to you” is likely where any interpretation would be tested in court.

Closing Thoughts

Punt has clearly moved to request repayment from certain players, at least informally, encouraging those who cashed out to cooperate with the vague threat of legal action.

As it stands, the T&Cs – which all players agree to on signup – clearly support the editing of account balances on-platform when funds have been credited in error, but how far that authority reaches post-redemption is where things become less obvious.

It will be interesting to see how things play out from here.
