Modo has a very wide reach, offering its service in every US state except Washington, although some states are limited to GC play. It also has features you won’t find everywhere, like Modo Boxes, Stars, and a great free rewards system.

Legal States

Modo has some restricted states where you can’t play for SC but you can play for GC: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Modo restricts access to the service entirely in Washington, meaning residents there can’t play with either currency.

But overall, Modo is available to players across most of the US in some form. Alongside the GC/SC casino games, other features like Modo Boxes and Stars are offered, and it’s quite rare for a casino to be this open and flexible.

As for age, players must be 18+ and over to use Modo, although if you want to take part for sweepstakes prizes, you should be 21+.

How Modo Social Casino Works

Modo offers both standard and promotional play, and it uses four main currencies/reward types:

• Gold Coins (GC): Standard free play currency with no cash value.
• Sweeps Coins (SC): Promotional coins that can be redeemed for cash after meeting Modo’s requirements. SC convert to USD at a rate of 1:1.
• Stars: Loyalty rewards earned through GC play that can be exchanged for more GC, Box Tickets, and gift cards. You can also convert SC to Stars at a rate of 1:100.
• Box Tickets: Tickets used to open Modo Boxes and claim physical prizes.

SC and Box Ticket play is optional, with free methods available to obtain coins without making a purchase. This free-play element is an important part of Modo’s sweepstakes model.

Modo Bonuses

The no deposit bonus at Modo is 30,000 GC + 1.1 free SC. It’s actually framed as ‘Day 1’ of the daily bonuses, but you still get it on signup (after inputting your personal details and phone number).

Then we have the 4 first purchase offers. The first one technically offers 400% free, but it’s only 4 SC extra.

• $0.99: 17,500 GC + 5 SC (400%)
• $9.99: 112,500 GC + 30 SC (200%)
• $19.99: 200,000 GC + 50 SC (150%)
• $59.99: 500,000 GC + 100 SC (40%)

So the SC bonus increases in nominal terms with each purchase, but the percentage of free coins goes down.

Bonuses Review

Modo offers daily free credits within a streak-based system. As mentioned, you’ll get 30,000 GC + 1.1 SC on day 1, with things dropping down to 10,000 GC + 0.1 SC for the next 5 days. After that, you’ll get a daily spin on the bonus wheel if you maintain your streak.

The VIP program is called Modo Ranks and contains 7 levels, going from Steel to Black Diamond. Moving up in the ranks depends on your play levels:

• 1,000,000 GC on slots = 1 Point
• 4,000,000 GC on tables and arcade games = 1 Point
• 10 SC on slots = 1 Point
• 40 SC on tables and arcade games = 1 Point

Each rank unlocks new levels of rewards, including instant, regular, and birthday prizes.

Modo offers a pretty decent AMOE bonus too: 3 SC per entry. To obtain this, players should click on the ‘Envelope Code Request’ link in the footer and follow the prompts to get the code. Then Modo’s referral program doesn’t give out straight GC and SC like most other sweepstakes casinos – instead, it gives Stars depending on the Modo Rank of the person you referred. For example, if the person you referred reaches Bronze level, you’ll get 1,000 Stars. If they make it all the way to Black Diamond, you’ll get 28,000 Stars.

On top of this, there are other challenges like collecting Puzzle pieces to earn Stars, events like the Modo Daily Hunt, and other impressive competitions. For example, at the time of writing, there’s the Spire Motorsports giveaway where players can win their share of 10,000,000 GC and 3,000 SC, plus the chance to win a VIP experience at the World Wide Technology Raceway race in Illinois. To enter, you simply need to win SC on eligible games, with every 1 SC won giving you 100 entries.

Modo has a seriously comprehensive game lobby, with around 2,500 titles spread across slots, live dealers, instant games, fishing games, game shows, unboxing, scratchcards, and table games.

There are plenty of big-name providers here too, including Evolution, Hacksaw Gaming, Nolimit City, NetEnt, Print Studios, Playson, Backseat Gaming, 3 Oaks Gaming, and Relax Gaming, alongside a long list of other studios and Modo Originals.

The main ‘Casino’ area focuses heavily on slots and live dealer games, but there’s plenty of help when it comes to finding something to play. You can browse categories such as ‘Top 10 Games’, ‘Latest Winners’, and ‘Recommended for You’, while the usual filters make it easy to narrow things down further.

There’s also a separate ‘Arcade’ section, and here you’ll find arcade games, dice games from Deck of Dice, Modo Originals, fish shooters, crash games, keno, and more.

Overall, this is one of the strongest parts of Modo. There’s a huge amount of choice, but the different categories and recommendations stop the lobby from feeling overwhelming. Also, all games are unlocked from the start, so there’s no need to play your way through the site to access certain titles.

You don’t need to sign up to browse the Modo lobby, which means you can get a good feel for the games before creating an account.

However, once you sign up you’ll be able to click on any game card and you’ll get an information screen showing the volatility level, minimum and maximum play amount, and maximum win, along with a screenshot that shows the game in action.

That’s more information than you’ll find at most sweeps casinos, and it’s useful for getting an idea of what you’re playing before you jump in. Still, I’d like to see the RTP listed here, as that’s an important piece of information for players comparing different games. Also, the maximum win is listed as a multiple of the max bet, rather than as a standard multiple like we normally see.

The games themselves are generally of a really high standard, but we’ll get into that in more detail below.

When it comes to redemptions, there are several options available. Gift cards require a minimum balance of 20 SC, while redemptions to a bank account or debit card require at least 50 SC. Some accounts will be eligible for instant bank account or debit card redemptions via Trustly, which sees your funds transferred within minutes.

There are also some more unusual options, including Modo Stars and Modo Boxes. Stars can be exchanged for gift cards, Gold Coins, and Box Tickets, while items collected through Modo Boxes can be redeemed for cash once the collection reaches a minimum total of $50.

You can always view your coin balance at the top of the screen, and if you want to purchase more coins, just click the ‘Get Coins’ link in the navbar.

SC must be played through once (1x) to become eligible for redemption, and you can always see what portion of your balance is eligible by clicking ‘Redeem’ in the navbar. There isn’t a general maximum redemption amount, although a $5,000 per-entry-period limit is in place for Florida due to state laws.

Also, bear in mind that if your total redemption value exceeds $600, you’ll need to provide your Social Security number before redeeming for tax purposes. It’s an indication that Modo takes its compliance and redemption processes seriously.

Payout speeds are good, especially with instant Trustly payouts available.

Is Modo Casino Legit?

Modo doesn’t have a traditional gambling license, but that’s not necessarily a requirement for a sweepstakes casino. Instead, we look at factors such as its reputation, ownership, game providers, security, KYC procedures, and compliance with sweepstakes rules.

Overall, Modo ticks plenty of the other boxes we’d expect from a trustworthy social casino too, with established game providers, detailed game information, website encryption, and KYC checks.

It’s worth mentioning that ARB Gaming has faced a number of lawsuits as a prominent sweeps operator. However, these cases have generally resulted in claims moving to individual arbitration rather than continuing in federal court.

I was pleased to see that Modo’s customer support offering has improved since our original review of the site. One of our main gripes at that time was that there was only live chat if you were higher up in the VIP program, but now live chat is available to everyone. You just need to open the chat box and ask to be put through to a human and someone will be there within seconds.

That being said, the AI chatbot is much better than others I’ve encountered while performing SweepsKings reviews. It offers you helpful answers and links out to more fleshed-out articles too. Also, all of your previous chats are always easily accessible, in case you want to dip back into them.

On top of this, there’s an FAQ section linked from the navbar which contains plenty of answers to the basics of using Modo. From here you can also access a contact form and find the support email address, but I would recommend the live chat box for a speedier answer, to be honest.

As you might have gathered from this review, Modo’s platform is far from simple, but fortunately, everything is presented in an easy-to-understand way. There are little info boxes here and there to explain things, and everything just works – apart from a couple of times that pages didn’t load. But overall, I really enjoyed the user experience here.

The presentation of the games in particular is excellent, with things like the ‘Top 10 Games’ chart – it’s very easy to browse and find inspiration for your next title to play. I also like that after you click on a game card, you can choose from GC and SC before you load it up – it’s a nice touch that makes pre-game coin choice feel easy.

Modo has an iOS app available on the Apple App Store, and this is a bespoke, native application with a dedicated mobile interface and all of the main casino features you’d expect. It holds a 4.7/5 rating from 51,000 ratings – really impressive.

We did find a listing for a ‘Modo Casino Slots & Games’ app on the Google Play Store too, but this doesn’t appear to be legit, so be careful.

What Modo does have for Android is a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning it’s the web browser version packaged up to work more like a traditional app. You can add it to your home screen and access Modo directly without having to open your browser and type in the website every time.

The PWA isn’t limited to Android either, with Modo offering this option across iOS, PC and Mac too. So while Android users don’t get a native app, there are still plenty of ways to get an app-like Modo experience across your devices. Well, Modo’s main weak point is its no deposit bonus, with all three of these competitors offering more. On pretty much every other front, though, Modo holds its own. It has a huge game selection, while the low minimum redemption and just 1x playthrough requirement are both big positives.

Its massive scope is another major advantage. Modo offers some form of gaming in 49 states, while Stars through GC-only play and Modo Boxes give players even more options in restricted states. That level of accessibility is something very few competitors can match.

The combination of 2,500+ games, major software providers, fast redemptions, excellent support, and wide US availability makes it difficult to fault overall. Modo Boxes and the extensive rewards system also give it something different from the usual social casino experience.

The biggest downside is the weak 30,000 GC + 1.1 SC no deposit bonus, while the sheer number of currencies and features can make the platform feel complicated when you first get started. We’d also like to see RTP information added to the game lobby in the same way that Stake.us does.

But even with those issues, Modo is a platform we’d have little hesitation recommending.
