Going into October, Zula accounted for 20.14% of Blask’s Brand’s Accumulated Power (BAP), ahead of Crown Coins at 15.66% and Chumba Casino at 11.26%.

What is Brand’s Accumulated Power (BAP)?

BAP is a brand’s share of search demand tracked by iGaming analytics company Blask.

The underlying Blask Index is based on search-demand data, basically coming from Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends data that’s filtered and processed.

In simple terms, the figures provide a snapshot of which sweepstakes casino brands were attracting the most search interest on Google during that period. In this case, week four of September rather than the entire month.

That explains why LuckyLand Slots shows in fifth place on the table, despite closing down in September; players could have well been searching for a shutdown timeline, for example.

All things considered, the results make for interesting reading. Crown Coins led the rankings in the previous month, while Zula didn’t even appear among the top 30 brands listed. However, the dual-currency casino operated by Priority Play clearly generated a huge amount of interest at the end of September.

We have a feeling that Zula’s three-year anniversary promotion running throughout the month had something to do with it. This included a promo that offered 200,000 free spins shared out across lucky Zula members, for example.

Which Sweepstakes Casinos Are Growing Year Over Year?

The YoY figures provide another interesting way of looking at the data, because the brands attracting the most search demand are not necessarily the ones who were doing so during same time last year.

Crown Coins, for example, was second in the latest snapshot with a 15.66% BAP, but its figure was 88.31% higher year over year. Conversely, while Zula was top of the table, its BAP was 14.48% down compared to this time last year.

LoneStar recorded the biggest YoY increase among the top 15 at a massive 514.70%. However, its BAP was only 2.07%, putting it well behind the leading brands in overall share.

Meanwhile, Stake ranked eighth in the latest snapshot despite being 43.49% lower year over year, while Chumba Casino was third despite a 29.57% decline.

But there’s a limitation worth bearing in mind with any search-based measure: established brands may not always generate as much search activity as less familiar names. This is because someone who already knows a casino or has it bookmarked may have less reason to search for it, whereas a new or unfamiliar brand could encourage people to look it up on Google.

That means that Blask rankings could probably be viewed as a measure of online attention and perhaps even ‘discovery’, rather than a definitive ranking of the biggest or most successful sweepstakes casinos.

How Exactly Is BAP Calculated?

BAP stands for Brand’s Accumulated Power and is designed to show how much of the measured market demand belongs to an individual casino.

The exact formula given by Blask is:

BAP = Brand’s Blask Index ÷ Market’s Blask Index × 100%

So, a brand with a BAP of 20% accounts for 20% of the tracked brand demand in that particular market and period. It does not mean that the brand has 20% of the market’s revenue, player base, deposits etc.

Blask uses data from Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends as part of its process, then cleans and adjusts the data before producing its Blask Index.

With that in mind, these figures are best seen as a snapshot of the brands attracting the most attention at the end of September, rather than a definitive picture of the entire sweepstakes casino market.

They also highlight how quickly the space can change, as promos and special events offering free GC and SC can attract a huge and sudden amount of interest, as was likely the case with Zula.
