LuckyLand Slots, one of the longest-running names in the sweepstakes casino space, is officially shutting down.
The VGW-owned platform has notified players that it will soon start winding down operations, with a full closure expected on September 14, 2026.
Here are the key dates communicated in player emails:
- Gold Coin purchases will end on August 3, 2026.
- Gameplay will end on August 24, 2026.
- All redemption requests and account access will end on September 14, 2026.
Some players have also been notified via on-site pop-ups, while a page on the site titled ‘Closure Information’ also confirms the shutdown.
SweepsKings advises players with remaining Sweeps Coins to redeem them well before the final deadline of September 14. Players should also avoid making any further coin bundle purchases and keep records of any redemption requests submitted.
LuckyLand Slots Closure Signals VGW Brand Consolidation
The closure appears to be part of a wider shift from operator VGW, with players already being directed toward its newer LuckyLand Casino platform.
In fact, when LuckyLand Casino launched at the end of last year, it raised questions about the future of LuckyLand Slots. The two sites shared a lot of similarities beyond just the name, including the overall look and user experience.
At the time, we assumed LuckyLand Slots would shut down soon after. In reality, it lasted longer than expected, but it was always a little confusing as to why both existed.
All that being said, this is still a big moment for the sweepstakes casino industry – LuckyLand Slots was one of the most recognizable early brands in the space.
Chumba Casino, launched by VGW in 2012, was the company’s original flagship sweeps casino with a great variety of games, and it helped establish the model that would eventually become a billion-dollar industry.
Then VGW launched LuckyLand Slots in 2019 as a slightly different offering with a more specific slot focus.
The End of an Era for One of Sweeps’ Biggest Brands
Over the years, LuckyLand Slots became one of the most familiar names in the sweeps ecosystem. The platform developed a reputation among players for its daily SC rewards and straightforward slot experience; for many longtime players, LuckyLand Slots was one of the platforms that helped define the early years of US sweepstakes casinos.
However, the launch of LuckyLand Casino changed the picture, and then a month ago, we saw daily SC bonuses stop at LuckyLand Slots – at this point, it felt like the writing was on the wall.
The closure also comes during a period of change at VGW.
Earlier this month, founder and CEO Laurence Escalante stepped down, bringing an end to the founder-led era at the company. One of the main reasons seems to be that Escalante is facing criminal charges in Western Australia (relating to allegations of domestic violence and drugs). He’s denied these charges and will fight them in court.
For now, Senior executive Mats Johnson stays on as the acting CEO.
But back to the LuckyLand Slots closure, while VGW hasn’t yet issued a formal press release, the combination of player emails and in-platform pop-ups tell us most of what we need to know.
For players, the key date to keep in mind is September 14, 2026, the final deadline for account access and redemption activity.
