Cheddr Sweepstakes Sportsbook Review

Cheddr Homepage

I was pumped when I first caught the rollout pitch for Cheddr. I’d played on apps that blend sports picks with social interaction (Dabble being the obvious comp), so the whole deal wasn’t exactly uncharted territory for me.

Cheddr, though, was being sold as the TikTok of sports wagering, a new way for fans to back their instincts, discuss picks, and stay plugged into the action. So far, that vision hasn’t really come together.

Still, it’s not a total write-off. It’s got a couple of things going for it, including a freeroll Pick’em contest, competitive odds, and a pretty chunky mail-in bonus worth 5 Cheddr Cash.

I spent a month testing out this new social book for SweepsKings, and below are my takeaways.

Pros

  • Free Pick’em tournaments
  • 5 CCash mail-in bonus
  • Competitive odds

Cons

  • Unfavorable playthrough conditions
  • No redeemable coins in the signup offer
  • Limited sports coverage
  • Slow customer support
Editor’s Note

Cheddr doesn’t walk the talk yet, but I’m not going to torch it for that while it’s still in beta. The player perks are attractive, but the rollover system needs to be scrapped. The market list is bare-bones, but I’m expecting it to open the floodgates soon and bring in the props it is already name-dropping in the sweepstakes rules.

How Cheddr Works

Cheddr is a social sportsbook running on a dual-currency sweepstakes model, the same basic framework you’ve seen across a ton of similar sites.

If you’re new to it, here’s the quick version: you’ll be using two different balances to make picks.

Cheddr Coins are non-redeemable, so they’re the play-money side of the app. You’ll have a lot more of them, and they’re mainly there to make sports predictions for fun.

Cheddr Cash is the in-house currency that has value off-app. You can convert it into real prizes, as long as you hit the rollover requirement. Functionally, Cheddr Cash works like bonus bets (what sportsbooks used to call free bets) on real-money books.

Track-Based Playthrough Requirements

Cheddr Cash isn’t withdrawable the moment you get it. Like on most sweepstakes-style apps, you have to put it into play first, but what is unusual is how Cheddr structures that process.

Rather than pooling all your CCash into one balance, Cheddr treats every CCash drop as its own separate “track”, and each of those shows up with a pre-set playthrough requirement attached to it. Cheddr locks that requirement in at the moment you receive the CCash, and it doesn’t retroactively change it later.

So, every new CCash credit is its own mini-account.

For example:

  • $10 CCash hits your account → Track #1
  • You later earn $5 CCash → Track #2

Instead of working off one CCash total, you’re dealing with multiple mini-balances in a specific order. When you place picks, Cheddr goes for the oldest active track in order to stop bonus cherry-picking and quick cashout plays.

Each wager chips away at the playthrough requirement. If the pick loses, the full stake counts toward clearing it. If it wins, Cheddr only credits a smaller portion, either the stake or the profit, whichever is lower. The goal is to prevent one big win from blowing past the requirement.

Once you fully clear a track, that CCash flips to redeemable, meaning you can cash it out after meeting things like KYC and the minimum redemption amount, usually $50. Until then, it’s gameplay-only.

The real kicker is this: if you burn through your CCash before finishing a track, it is gone for good. It doesn’t pause, roll over, or wait for future credits.

Cheddr isn’t built for players trying to hit one big score and bounce. The system favors smaller wagers, patience, and grinding CCash over time, which is very different from how most sportsbook bettors usually operate.

Cheddr Bonuses

Cheddr NFL

The intro promo of 5,000 Cheddr Coins is a nice bit of spotter cash to test-drive the app. However, it doesn’t really show you how the rollover system plays out.

Once the Cheddr welcome bonus runs its course, the app grants you ongoing chances to earn Cheddr Coins through a daily bonus and leaderboard contests that award Cheddr Cash. So, redeemable coins are in rotation, but you have to earn them by outpicking everyone else.

The mail-in bonus is the lowest-effort path, but it’s not instant. Most of the time, you’ll be waiting a couple of weeks before the credit hits.

Here are the promos Cheddr had lined up for regular players the last time I checked:

  • Daily bonus: You can collect 3,000 Cheddr Coins on daily check-ins.
  • Mail-in bonus: Cheddr pays 5 Cheddr Cash for every approved AMOE entry. The sweepstakes rules lay out the mailing address (a Wellesley Hills P.O. box) and the exact formatting requirements in Section 2.2(d), so you’ll want to follow that to the letter.
  • Weekly leaderboard: The app tracks weekly Coin totals from settled picks. The top finishers at the end of the week cash out.
  • Pick’em tournaments: These are peer-to-peer Pick’em contests where you go up against other users and jockey for a position on the leaderboard. While I was conducting my Cheddr review, a $250 NFL Sunday tournament was live with 22 entries.

Cheddr Betting Options & Markets

Cheddr Betting

If you’re looking for the usual slate most U.S. bettors expect, Cheddr has NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL, and soccer lines locked down. The in-play section is live, too, so you can wager on a game while it’s moving, not just before kickoff.

Bet type-wise, it’s a tight ship. I pulled up the Super Bowl Seahawks vs. Patriots matchup and only saw the core straight bets: moneyline, spread, and total. If you’re used to digging for player props, alternate spreads, or futures, this sweeps betting app won’t scratch that itch.

When you open a specific game, Cheddr breaks out a separate summary tab that shows where everyone’s money is going. It lists the number of picks and the percentage of coins on each bet, which is pretty useful for getting a quick consensus before you ride with, or fade, the public.

In that Seahawks-Patriots example, the public was smashing New England: 82% of bettors had put down the Patriots to win, and 91% of the total action on that game was on them.

Odds

Cheddr Odds

Cheddr’s odds are competitive, sometimes better than at most social books I’ve tried. I’ve seen it deal 20-cent lines on spreads and totals with -110 on both sides, which is the same pricing you’ll run into at major real-money sites.

Moneylines hang in that same range, too. For the Super Bowl, Cheddr had the Seahawks at -238 and the Patriots at +190, while FanDuel was sitting at -235 and +194, so they’re basically in the same ballpark.

It’ll also shade a line and go against the grain in spots. In one soccer matchup, it had Roma under at -105, while most real-money books kept it at -110. That’s a little off-market misprice that can set up an arb play if you’re shopping lines.

Pick’em

More and more DFS apps are rolling out peer-to-peer Pick’em contests, where you’re playing against other users instead of the house, so Cheddr doesn’t really stick out on that concept alone.

Where it does differ is how the Pick’em contests are built compared to those at Underdog or PrizePicks, the two biggest names in this format. On their platforms, you choose which games and props you want to build your entry around. At Cheddr, the slate is predetermined.

It hands you a set list of games, and your job is to pick winners. It’s a leaderboard contest, so your goal is to outscore the rest of the field. Finish near the top, and you’re the one getting paid.

It also tosses in Chili Multipliers on certain underdog sides as a risk-reward nudge. If you’re willing to take the tougher road, they sweeten the payoff since those picks are harder to hit.

Cheddr Store

Based on what’s currently shown on the official site, Cheddr’s entry bundle starts at $0.99 and includes 100 Cheddr Coins + 5 Cheddr Cash, which suggests you’re getting more redeemable value in CCoins than the dollar amount you’re putting in.

Higher bundles scale up from there, including a $4.99 option with 1,000 Cheddr Coins and 40 Cheddr Cash.

Banking options include debit cards and bank transfers. The T&C also references gift cards, which suggests they’re on the roadmap, but we’ll see if it’s fully implemented once the product moves out of beta into full release.

Cash-out limits are pretty tight, with a $50 minimum redemption and a $500 cap per withdrawal. For context, Sportzino also has a $50 minimum, but it lets you redeem up to 9,550 SC in a single shot.

Is Cheddr Legit?

Cheddr iOS App

Cheddr appears to be a legitimate project backed by credible names in the gaming and investment industries. The company is based in Los Angeles, California, and is led by Jason Krupat and Katelyn Friedson, both of whom are well-known figures in the sweepstakes and skill-based gaming scene. Krupat has previously worked with brands like Yahoo!, Skillz, and VGW, while Friedson has led product development for several successful consumer platforms. What gives Cheddr extra credibility is its backing from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), the largest venture capital firm in the world.

Cheddr Team

Cheddr does have an iOS app, but I wouldn’t read too much into its 3.5 rating just yet. It’s still early days, and with 10 reviews when I last checked, there’s not a real sample size to work with. On top of that, the only written feedback was a one-liner from a user saying “they suck” because he claims he didn’t get paid what he was owed.

One thing that did catch my eye was some conflicting language in the dispute terms. In one spot, Fulton County, Georgia, is named as the venue for disputes. Elsewhere, the arbitration section says any hearing would take place in the federal district where the user lives, unless the law requires otherwise. That doesn’t automatically mean trouble, but it reads like parts were pulled from a template and stitched together.

Cheddr Customer Support

Customer support was far from satisfactory in my testing. I reached out because I had hit a wall during signup. After phone verification, the app asked me for an invitation code, and without it, I couldn’t finish registration.

The live chat button didn’t work on my end, so I emailed the address listed in the Terms and Conditions, support@cheddr.xyz. That went nowhere, and two weeks later, I still hadn’t heard back.

Cheddr UX

Cheddr App UX

The Cheddr website is clearly in a very early beta stage, showing only a few promotional banners and images with no interactive features yet. By the looks of it, it appears the platform will be mobile-app only.

The Cheddr iOS app sticks to a familiar layout. Sports run across the top in a horizontal bar, and once you tap in, the matchups flow down the screen in a vertical list. It’s the same structure most bettors are already used to, so there’s no learning curve.

At the bottom, there’s a sticky navigation bar with quick access to Pick’em, My Picks, the Store, and account settings. It keeps the important stuff one tap away and makes bouncing around the app easy.

Cheddr Sister Sites

Cheddr is the first product by the company, but since the platform is still in its early stages, I’ll offer some alternative sweepstakes gaming sites that offer solid social sports betting experiences to US players.

How It Stacks Up

Cheddr is definitely trying something new by combining short-form scrolling with live sports betting, but it’s not the first platform that’s trying to mix the social side of sweepstakes gaming with sports betting. Similar platforms like Onyx Odds and ReBet already let users place sports bets using sweepstakes-style currencies.

Beyond those, there are full-fledged social sportsbooks such as Legendz and Sportzino that offer an even wider setup with 30+ sports to bet on using Gold Coins for fun and Sweeps Coins redeemable for real prizes. The real question is whether Cheddr can take this formula and make it feel genuinely new before it moves past its beta phase.

Our Experts Verdict

I was fired up when Cheddr first started popping up, but that hype has definitely cooled off. There’s nothing here that really moves the needle. If anything, it still has a long way to go just to reach the level of basic sportsbooks that aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel.

The fastest win is obvious. Boost the bonuses, or more specifically, put more Cheddr Cash into circulation. On top of that, that abomination of a playthrough requirement has to go, too. It’s the kind of thing that turns curious bettors into one-and-done users.

After those fundamentals are handled, then we can start talking about upgrades that would make this app feel special, like adding live streaming, micro bets, or seasonal props that you can’t find on the usual sweeps apps.

All in all, I think you should keep Cheddr in your rotation, if only as a line-shopping out. Check it before you lock a spread or total elsewhere, because the pricing can be just as good and occasionally better.

FAQs

Is Cheddr safe to use?

Nothing I saw suggests it’s a fly-by-night shop, but it’s still too early to tell. The real test will be consistency over time, and the best approach is to treat it like a new product: start small, and pay attention to how redemptions and support requests play out.

How does Cheddr work?

Cheddr is a social betting app that runs on a dual-currency sweepstakes model. You use Cheddr Coins for play-money picks, while Cheddr Cash can be converted into real prizes once you meet the playthrough requirements.

What makes Cheddr’s playthrough requirements different?

Most sweepstakes apps have a combined balance for the redeemable currency. Cheddr doesn’t. Every time you get Cheddr Cash, there is a new “track” with its own rollover attached. Your bets always work toward the oldest track first. An important thing to keep in mind is that if you run a track down to zero before you clear it, whatever was left on it is basically toast.

Are Cheddr odds competitive?

For a social-first platform, the odds are better than you’d expect. It’s not one of those apps where every line feels padded. If you also bet at regulated books, you’ll see pricing that looks familiar, and sometimes you’ll even catch a small edge if you’re comparing multiple betting sites.

How do Cheddr Pick’em contests work?

Cheddr’s Pick’em contests are peer-to-peer and leaderboard-based. Instead of letting you choose your own matchups like at Underdog or PrizePicks, Cheddr gives everyone the same predetermined slate. You pick winners, climb the leaderboard, and get paid if you finish near the top. Underdog picks may come with Chili Multipliers.

Which states can use Cheddr right now?

Cheddr social sportsbook app is available in all states except Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia.
