Pirate Bonanza 2 spices up the base game with a set of multiplier features and two distinct bonus rounds. Everything revolves around the tumble mechanic and the cannon modifier, which activates the multiplier bombs and can provide the highest payouts.
Pirate Bonanza 2
Overall Rating
84%Pirate Bonanza 2 is a definite upgrade from the original, both in terms of visuals and overall gameplay flow. The animations are more polished, the symbols are easier to follow, and the cluster pays mechanic feels more intuitive than the “pay any” mechanic of the original game.
That said, it’s still a high-risk, high-reward game. The base game can feel slow and uneventful without bonus features, and many spins can pass without a win that covers your wager. Thankfully, the range of feature buy options and toggles like Bonushunt and Bombard make the game more fun and, if you’re lucky, more rewarding. With an above-average RTP and a huge max win potential, Pirate Bonanza 2 will appeal to players who enjoy volatile slots with big win potential and a modern design.

Pirate Bonanza 2 sets sail as the latest high-volatility slot from Backseat Gaming, released in July 2025. It’s the second iteration of the original Pirate Bonanza slot by Backseat that’s been a fan favorite ever since it was released in 2024, but this time, the maximum win has been doubled to 20,000x your bet.
This sequel is more of an evolution than revolution of the first game, as it builds on the success of Pirate Bonanza by using the parts that made the game popular, like the fun pirate theme and the signature bomb mechanic. But this time, there are even bigger wins, more intuitive mechanics, and even more in-game features and bonuses.
The game features a solid RTP of 96.3%, tumbling symbols, a Cannon bonus that comes with multipliers, wilds, and free spins. The Pirate Bonanza 2 volatility is high, and combined with the low payouts in the base game, you get a jackpot-like slot where you need to weather the storm to get to the gold.
You get multiple Bonus Buy options, including Hacksaw’s unique option to guarantee a win on each spin, and advanced autoplay options that you can adjust to your liking.

About Pirate Bonanza 2: Game Overview
Pirate Bonanza 2 is a brand-new 6×5 high-volatility slot from up-and-coming developer Backseat Gaming. It was launched in July 2025 as a follow-up to the original Pirate Bonanza, and like the first game, it offers a dynamic, cascade-based experience with a tropical pirate setting.
The game comes with an above-average 96.30% RTP and a whopping 20,000x max win, making it a solid pick for players who enjoy big-risk, big-reward casino-style slots.
The grid uses cascading reels instead of traditional paylines, much like the original game, which means that symbols drop in clusters and keep going as long as new wins land. You’ll also run into wilds, multiplier bombs, and the Cannon Blast free spins game that awards 10 free rounds.
All these extras make the game’s pace feel fast and active, and Backseat Gaming has clearly taken what worked in the original and doubled down on it here – visually, mechanically, and in terms of potential payouts.
If you’ve played Pirate Bonanza or other cascading reels games by Hacksaw or Backseat Gaming, like Roman Bonanza or Le King, you’ll recognize the core structure – but this sequel brings more polish and better flow overall.
Pirate Bonanza 2 Slot Information
Pirate Bonanza 2 doesn’t have traditional paylines. Instead, it uses the cluster pays mechanic, and wins are triggered when 5 or more matching connecting symbols land anywhere on the 6×5 grid. Then winning symbols are removed via the tumble (cascade) mechanic, making room for new symbols to drop in and take their places. If the new symbols form winning combinations again, the feature is repeated until there are no wins.
This is one of the biggest differences from the original Pirate Bonanza. Namely, in the original, you need 8 of the same symbols to form a winning combination, but they don’t have to be connected. Here, you only need 5 matching symbols, but they need to be connected.
The minimum winning cluster is 5 matching symbols, while the maximum payout is obtained by hitting 15+ matching symbols.
The lower paying symbols are represented by different colored gems (purple, red, green, blue, orange), but each gem combination pays the same, so it doesn’t really matter which color type you’ll match – as long as it forms a winning combination. These are the symbols you’ll see most often while playing Pirate Bonanza 2.
The higher paying symbols are pirate-specific items, like the Bottle of Rum, Treasure Map, Compass, and the Pirate Hat as the highest-paying symbol.
Besides the base-game symbols, there are special symbols that appear in the game.
The Wild is a special symbol represented by a golden helm, and can substitute all the symbols in the paytable to form winning combinations. The other special symbols trigger the bonus features: the Pirate Bonus symbol triggers the free spins, and the Cannon symbol activates the multiplier bombs.
The bombs only appear if the cannon has been activated, and I’ll explain how they work and how much they pay when I discuss the Pirate Bonanza 2 features below.
Pirate Bonanza 2 Slot Features
Wild Symbol
The Wild symbol feature is the simplest one in this game: if a Wild symbol appears on the reels, it can substitute any other symbol to form a winning combination. It can land during both the base game and the bonus games.
Cannon Feature
If you score a win in Pirate Bonanza 2, all the symbols that formed the winning combination will receive a blue highlight around them. If there’s a Cannon symbol anywhere on the grid, it will activate, and the blue squares will reveal Multiplier Bombs. The Multiplier Bombs explode and reveal their multiplier, which is added to the payout.
There are two main types of multiplier bombs:
- Additive – The multiplier value of these bombs is added together.
- Multiplicative – These bombs multiply the value of the total multiplier.
Based on their form, there are Low, Medium, and High value multiplier bombs, and the special X-Golden and R-bombs:
- Low – Represented by the simplest black bomb, these bombs are additive and can have multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x.
- Medium – These bombs have a golden skull on them, and are also additive, with multipliers of 10x, 15x, 20x, or 25x.
- High – These are golden bombs with a skull, and they’re also additive, with multipliers of 50x, 75x, and 100x.
- Golden – The Golden Multiplier bomb is multiplicative. It has an X mark on it, and can multiply the total multiplier by x2, x3, x5, or x10.
- R-Bomb – This is a special golden bomb that activates after all other bombs have been revealed. It removes all the additive bombs and replaces them with new ones, but it leaves all Golden bombs on the grid. If another R–Bomb drops, the sequence continues until there are no R-Bombs. This feature isn’t available in the original Pirate Bonanza slot, and does indeed make a huge difference when it lands.
The total payout is calculated after all bombs have been revealed. All additive multipliers are first added to the total win, and then they’re multiplied by the Golden Multiplier (if present on the grid). Then, the R-Bomb (if present) will replace all standard bombs and the R-Bomb with new ones. There’s no limit on how many times this sequence can continue, as long as there’s at least one R-Bomb.
Cannon Blast Free Spins
The Cannon Blast feature is activated when 3 Bonus Scatter symbols appear on the reels. It activates the bonus game with 10 free spins, and during the bonus game, there’s a higher chance of activating the Cannon feature.
All the squares that have been previously highlighted due to a winning combination remain on the reels until a Cannon appears and activates them.
Bombs Away Free Spins
Landing 4 Bonus Scatter symbols activates the Bombs Away bonus game. It also awards 10 free spins, but this time, all highlighted squares stay on the grid for the entire duration of the bonus round. There’s also a higher chance of landing a Cannon symbol during the bonus game.
Interestingly, the same Pirate Bonanza bonus round required 5 scatters to activate.
Bonus Buy
There are four different bonus buy options in Pirate Bonanza 2, and their cost depends on the bet amount.
- The first one is Bonshunt Featurespins, which costs x2 the bet per spin, and when active, each spin has a 3x higher chance to activate a bonus game.
- The second option is Bombard Featurespins. This feature costs 50x the bet per spin, but guarantees that there will be at least 1 winning combination each spin, and that at least 1 Cannon symbol will land, which means guaranteed Bomb multipliers. The RTP when this feature is active drops to 96.28%.
- The third option is to purchase the Cannon Blast bonus game. It costs 100x the bet, and the RTP when buying this feature is 96.27%.
- The fourth option is to buy the Bombs Away bonus game. It costs 250x the bet, and the RTP remains at 96.32%.
Game Specs: RTP & Volatility
Pirate Bonanza 2 has a max RTP of 96.32%, which is above average and pretty much the same as the original.
The volatility is high, with a hit frequency of 32.44%, which means that the game pays out less frequently, but has the potential for large wins – especially with the Cannon feature.
200 Spins Test of Pirate Bonanza 2
I started my 200 spin test of Pirate Bonanza 2 by Backseat Gaming with 5,000 demo coins, and during the first few spins, I noticed that it lives up to the claimed high volatility. Another thing I need to point out is that even though the symbols are very similar to the original game, the gameplay feels different. The visuals are much nicer, the soundtrack is appropriate, and the animations have been improved drastically. However, in normal mode, they even feel a bit slow, so I immediately switched to Turbo mode.
50 spins in, and I finally hit my first more substantial win. I landed 6 green gems for a payout of 3 coins, but luckily, there was a Cannon on the reels. It activated 5 Low bombs for an added multiplier of 15x and a total win of 45 coins.
I continued playing the base game with a bet size of 10 coins, but luck wasn’t on my side, and my bankroll dropped to 4,700 coins. I got some small gem wins here and there, but they rarely cover the bet size – let alone make a profit. So, I turned on the Bonushunt Featurespins feature to see if I’ll be lucky enough to activate a bonus game.
Admittedly, I did see the Bonus symbol more often, but I never got 3 matching symbols to activate the bonus round, and my bankroll dropped to 3,900 coins. So I went on to buy the Cannon Blast feature for 1,000 coins.
I got lucky and hit a win and a cannon in the first of the 10 free spins, and I won a total of 144 coins with the feature.
I was still in the red, so I went on to purchase and try the Bombs Away feature for 2,500 coins (with a bet size of 10). When I activated the feature, I had only 525 coins left in my bankroll.
And then, in typical high volatility slot fashion, the game decided to reward me. I finally got a Cannon symbol on the last free spin, and I already had a large part of the grid with a blue highlight, which meant a lot of multipliers!
Luckily, I got both the golden X and R bombs, which meant even bigger multipliers for a total win of 16,698,00 coins with a feature spin! With a bet level of 10 coins, that’s a win of over 1,660x my bet.
With over 17,000 coins in my bankroll, I toggled the Bombard Featurespins feature that costs 50x the wager per spin (500 coins in my case) but guarantees a win. This is the most volatile scenario in the game, and although you win each turn, the wins are often on the smaller side.
I completed my 200 spins test with 15,859 coins in my bankroll, which means I made a profit of over 10,000 coins.
My test confirms that Pirate Bonanza 2 truly lives up to its high volatility, with long dry spells followed by big wins. But thanks to the solid RTP and a few lucky features, I managed to come out on top with a sizable profit.
